History
The great entity of the Osman Group started
in 1942 on the initiative of the late Eng. Osman Ahmed Osman
when he, together with his brother Eng. Hussein Ahmed Osman,
formed a small business firm for contracting and engineering
works.
Faith in God, honesty, enthusiasm, dedication and hard work
led to the enlargement and expansion of the business and with
excellency in performance paved the way to penetrate the construction
market place in Egypt and other Arab countries with the establishment
of three new companies:
In 1952: The
Saudi Enterprises Co. (Osman Ahmed Osman & Co.) in Saudi
Arabia.
In 1953: The
Kuwait Engineering Co. (Osman Ahmed Osman & Co.) in Kuwait.
In 1954: The
Engineering Industries and General Contracting Co. in Egypt.
The mother
company was nationalized in 1961 and the name changed to The
Arab Contractors Osman Ahmed Osman & Co.
but it remained under the chairmanship of Eng. Osman Ahmed
Osman. Two further companies were established:
In 1961: The
Libyan Co. for Contracting & Development (Osman Ahmed
Osman & Co.) in Libya.
In 1963: Osman
Ahmed Osman & Co. (Engineers & Contractors) in Abu
Dhabi.
Due to the
expansion and diversity, a set of representative offices was
established in other countries namely: Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq,
Sudan, Germany (Bremen), and England (London).
In 1973, Eng.
Osman Ahmed Osman was appointed to the Cabinet (Minister of
Housing and Reconstruction) and Eng. Hussein Ahmed Osman was
named the new Chairman of The Arab Contractors (Osman Ahmed
Osman & Co.).
Progression
continued at this time and the business turnover surpassed
one billion US Dollars with a work force of more than 56,000
permanent employees.
In 1974, a
new economic policy was adopted in Egypt, the Open Door Economic
Policy, which encouraged reactivation of the private sector
and led to the establishment of:
ARAB CONTRACTORS
(OSMAN AHMED OSMAN) ASSOCIATED COMPANIES
A group of
private companies with a majority shareholding to Arab Contractors
was established.
ARAB CONTRACTORS
EMPLOYEES PENSION FUND
This fund has
established and participated in a new group of Companies with
diversified interests.
THE OSMAN GROUP (OG)
A group
of industrial and general engineering companies, which are
privately owned by Osman family.
All of these
groups of companies are closely related and have achieved
a great deal of success during the seventies and, with a tremendous
momentum through the eighties till now, are to be considered
one of the leading business, industrial and general enterprise
groups in Egypt.
In 1979, the
Arab Contractors Company (Osman Ahmed Osman & Co.), under
the chairmanship of Eng. Hussein Ahmed Osman, executed the
largest agricultural development ever known in the Middle
Eat and Africa, which was the Salhya Project. It comprised
the construction and cultivation of 150,000 acres.
DinaFarms belongs
to Dina For Agriculture Investments Company, which is considered
as one of the largest agricultural enterprises in Egypt and
the Middle East. This company is one of the largest firms
forming the Osman Group (OG).
